Just curious - why should one use the macports version instead of the
binary provided by lilypond.org?

There are at least two reasons.

* It seamlessly integrates into macports, which means it can be easily
installed with `port install lilypond-devel'. It can be also easily
removed with a similar command.

* It uses the most recent libraries. While the stuff in gub works
(more or less), many used packages are severely out of date.

How hard would it be to get LilyPond into the macOS App Store?

…and is there any reason why it couldn’t be made available for Homebrew?

It was removed from Homebrew due to the dependency on Guile 1.8 which
conflicted with too many other packages. But the prebuilt binaries from
lilypond.org *are* available through "brew cask" which is the most
convenient way of installing applications for macOS.

Hi, Sven.

It seems odd to me that MacPorts can cope with Guile 1.8 and Homebrew can’t.

I have both MacPorts and Homebrew installed, but the majority of the applications I’ve been using are available through Homebrew. In general, I’d prefer to keep things simple by having only one package manager.

As I’m not a cutting-edge user of lilypond, I can content myself with the “brew cask” method.

Regards,

Michael

Likely impossible. Apple is allergic against the GPLv3 .
